LaFortune, Doris Helen

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Doris on June 4, 2010, peacefully at home after a long and active life. She was predeceased by her father Arthur in 1960, mother Beatrice Pottage in 1971, son Terry in 1965 and grandson Fred in 2004.

Doris will be lovingly remembered by her husband William, children Leslie (Bernard) Wilson, Mike (Sharryl) and Gordon (Sandra), grandchildren Michelle, Chelsea, Brian, Katherine, James and Tracy, great grandchildren Dryden, Rachael, and Bryanna.

Doris was the last in a family of twelve children and the only one to have left England. She met her husband in 1942 and they were wed in 1944. They came to Canada in 1946 after Doris was released from the British Army where she served as a Radar Technician. They moved from England to Port Alberni, and finally Cedar. Doris worked at the Four All Seasons Care Facility for 15 years, and continued to volunteer for many years after her retirement.

Doris and William were active with the Cedar Activity Club, and Doris enjoyed painting, wool art, knitting, as well as many other handicrafts. She was a long time member of Jonanco Hobby Workshop, and spent many years volunteering with the Lions Clubs.

Doris was a very supportive mother, she was the rock of our family and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
