Doris Evelyn Chalmers (nee Grieves) passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Nanaimo on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at the age of 99. Her mother said she was born on September 10, 1918. However, her father registered and recorded her birth date as September 23, 1918 in Tugaski, Saskatchewan.
Her formative years were spent on the family farm. She graduated from high school in Redwood City, California and the next 72 years were spent in British Columbia. Doris will be fondly remembered for her years of nursing at Burnaby General Hospital, her excellent pies, a talent she had the foresight to pass on to her son Dennis, and roller coaster riding at 90.
Doris spent the last 2 years of her life living with her only son, Dennis Dwight Chalmers, her daughter-in-law, Diana, granddaughter, Stephanie (Neil), and 3 of her great-grandchildren, Asher, Declan, and Mackenzie.
In addition, her grandson Ben (Shannon) and their two sons Lincoln, and Griffin, and her granddaughters Britt and Caroline will all remember her fondly. We cannot imagine a better way for Doris to have lived her final years.
Doris was predeceased by her mother Anna Cecilia Grieves Keller, and her siblings Pearl, Herman, Roy, Jim and Louise.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Church of the Nazarene, 2150 Departure Bay Rd on Saturda,y March 24th at 11 am with a reception to follow.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Red Cross.
