In loving memory ~
The family of Doreen Mills sadly announces her passing on November 17, 2021. Mom was predeceased by our Dad, James, in 1995, infant son, Robert (1953), and son, Steven (2007), as well as grandsons, Daniel (1996) and Andrew (2001). Mom is also predeceased by her parents, brother and a sister.
Mom is lovingly remembered by her children, Sharon (Bill), Vicky (Dan), Chris (Debbie), Mitch (Kim), Larry (Diane) and Cynthia (Bruno) and chosen son, Phil. Also missing their Gramma/Nana are her grandchildren Brittany, Matt (Lindsay), Nathan (Catherine), Carly (Brad), Aaron, Christopher (Shannon), Nicole, Jason (Kirsten), Kyle (Melissa), Lynsie (Gary), Michelle (Tyson), Christa (Jon), Jessica (Rob), Élisabeth (Abraham), Benjamin, Madeleine, Brenna (Donny), Kendall (Porter) and Blaine and great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Caitlyn, Naomi, Taylor, Elisha, Evan, Christopher, Tyler, James, Sienna, Rya, Opel, Westin, Stanley, Eugénie, Nixon, Griffin, Brady, Kalia and Indie. Mom is also survived by her sister Jean (Roy) as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mom was born in Tisdale, Saskatchewan and moved to Nanaimo with her family as a teenager. She was happy to get away from the cold Prairie winters. Mom always put her children and grandchildren first. She would drop everything at a moments notice to care for our kids. She passed on many traditions to us including her Christmas baking, opening one small gift on Christmas Eve, her love of gardening, camping and teaching her grandchildren how to roll her cigarettes! Mom was an avid gardener and could always be found in the backyard in the summer digging in her garden while clothes dried in the warm summer breeze on the line. She excelled at baking, knitting and needlepoint. She made sure that when our babies came home from the hospital, they had a sweater, bonnet and blanket lovingly handcrafted by Nana/Gramma. We fondly remember Mom's Sunday dinner specialties, roast beef and Yorkshire pudding or roast chicken, her famous chocolate birthday cakes with pennies and jam in the middle and we can't forget her canned fruit and salmon. Mom loved being a stay-at-home mom, sewing clothes for us, nursing us when we were sick and supporting us unconditionally in anything we aspired to be or do. She enjoyed fishing with Dad, camping at Rathtrevor, the Okanagan, Clayton's and Snaw Naw As. We have all carried on her love of the outdoors.
Mom loved her amazing neighbours and her neighbourhood where she lived for the past 65 years. We want to give special thanks to Kelly, Ray and Cleighton Boroski for their loving support and for watching over Mom while she still lived at home.
We also wish to send much love and gratitude to Mimi for the care, love, and compassion she showed Mom.
We would like to give a very special thank you to all the staff at Dufferin Place who treated Mom with love and respect.
There will be a garden celebration of Mom's life at a later date.
Flowers gratefully declined. If you wish, please make a donation to your charity of choice.
