JENKINSON, Donald William

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear brother, husband, father, granddad, great granddad, Donald William Jenkinson on March 15, 2010. Don was born in Ilford, Essex, England, April 29, 1916 and predeceased by his wife, Jean Bell Barlow. Don and Jean married on July 1, 1950, Southend-On-Sea, Essex. They emigrated to Canada in 1956, crossing the Atlantic on the Ile De France and traveling by train from New York to Vancouver. They became full time residents of Nanaimo and raised their three daughters: Sharon, Beverley and Vikki.

Don worked at the Federal Fisheries until his retirement. He was a gentle, loving man who touched the lives of all he met, and was dedicated to his family and all their children. He was amazing in the depth and breadth of his talents and interests which included poetry writing, bird watching, astronomy, photography, gardening, music, languages, oil portraiture and travel. After his baptisim into the Christadelphian faith in 1945, Don found focus and lifelong fulfillment in the Word of God.

Don is survived by his three children, six grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and son-in-laws: Dale, Roger and Greg.

A special thanks go to the staff of Nanaimo Regional General Hospital and its Palliative Care nurses. We make special mention of our gratitude to Dr. Forrester for his exceptional care and interest in “D.W.”

Don is to be laid to rest with Jean at the Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens following his Celebration of Life, 12 noon, March 26th at the Christadelphian Hall, Elk Street, Nanaimo.

Don is waiting in hope for the resurrection at the return of Christ his Lord.
