February 6, 1944 - January 1, 2021
It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Donald John Conley, born February 6, 1944 and died January 1, 2021.
Predeceased by his parents Kenneth and Jennie, he leaves his loving partner of 37 years, Joanne, his furry friend, Duke, brothers, Laurence (Patience), Dale (Karen), sister-in-law Janice (Wendy), many nieces and a nephew and great nieces and a great nephew.
Don spent 20 years in the Military with Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry from 1961 - 1981 with tours in Cypress and Germany, retiring with the rank of Warrant Officer. He also worked several years with Nanaimo Corrections.
Don had a love of the outdoors and spent a lot of time at various lakes on Vancouver Island, camping and trout fishing. He loved his camping trips at Toquart Bay with family and friends and then later at Salmon Beach where that was his getaway before and after retirement enjoying fishing on his boat, "Sweeper".
He adored his great nieces and nephews on the deck in the morning. They would wait until the blinds were open and go in the cabin for some morning fun. Then they were happy leaving with their treats for the day. He loved it all.
Don loved beautiful walks in Morrell Sanctuary with his partner and furry friend Duke, walking the many trails of ten, seeing his favourite barred owl.
He was much loved and will be greatly missed.
We thank the paramedics, fire rescue, emergency staff and the doctor who attended to Don. Their professionalism and compassion was top notch.
A gathering to honour Don will be held at a later date.
In memory of Don, donations can be made to the Morrell Nature Sanctuary.
Until we meet again, your sunshine. Online condolences may be offered at www.firstmemorialnanaimo.com
