February 16, 1939 - July 1, 2021
It is with great sadness that our family is sharing the news of the peaceful passing of Don Robertson on July 1, 2021.
Don was born in Kamloops on February 16, 1939, to parents Donald Sr. and Dorothy. He grew up in Youbou and attended Lake Cowichan High School. Don and his wife Leona moved to Nanaimo in 1959 where they raised their family.
Don spent his life working in sawmills on Vancouver Island. He loved to drive and enjoyed his job as carrier driver. He believed strongly in worker's rights and worked tirelessly with the local PPWC union.
Don was a caring and passionate family man. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Leona. He also leaves behind children Donna Vidal (Dan Gibson), Todd and Carol; grandchildren Matthew Mowbray and Jordan Vidal (Lianna) and great-grandchildren Everest, James and Johnathan. Don was predeceased by his grandson Benjamin Mowbray and brother-in-law Ken Curts.
Don had a lifelong passion for all types of music, and played guitar. He loved his cars, including a 1949 Mercury and 1969 Barracuda. Other interests included road trips, photography, hockey, politics and history. He enjoyed spending mornings with his walking group.
Don was a proud Canadian and will be remembered fondly each Canada Day.
The family wishes to thank Arnel and the staff at Woodgrove Manor and Dr Cone.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
