June 22, 1928 - February 21, 2019
With great sadness our family announces the passing of Domenico Socal. Domenico passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on February 21, 2019, at Burnaby General Hospital. Beloved husband of Lenore (predeceased 2012), father to Bettina (Angelo) and grandfather to Lucia and Matteo.
Domenico was born on June 22, 1928, in Cavaso del Tomba, Italy. He was the youngest of 6 children. Domenico immigrated to Canada in 1955. He eventually settled in Nanaimo in 1958.
Domenico spent many happy years in Nanaimo, where he married, raised his daughter and made many close and lasting friendships. Dad was a skilled carpenter and was an active member of the Cavalotti Lodge after retirement. Many happy times were spent with his wife and friends at the lodge.
Domenico loved the outdoors. His favourite pastime was fishing and he was a knowledgeable gardener. He loved dancing and he and Lenore had many happy evenings dancing together.
Domenico had a kind and gentle soul and he was a thoughtful person, always ready to lend a helping hand. He was a proud father and "Nonno". He was happy to spend more time with his grandchildren after moving to Burnaby.
Domenico enjoyed sharing a glass of his homemade wine with his friends and sharing stories; and he had many interesting stories to tell. His detailed memories about his adventures in Venezuela, immigrating to Canada and his life in Italy as a child were fascinating. I will cherish those stories and my memories of him always. Domenico will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends.
