Denis Alvan Buck

August 20, 1935 - May 18, 2014

With great sadness our family announces the passing of beloved husband, father, and papa, Denis Alvan Buck, who died May 18, 2014. Denis was born in Nanaimo on August 20, 1935 and raised on Buck Road in East Wellington. Many people will remember him from working at the Bank of Montreal and later First Memorial Funeral Services. A proud Nanaimoite, he was very knowledgeable about the history and people of Nanaimo.

He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life: Spring, Summer, tending his vegetable and flower garden, dogs, hockey, good food, a glass of wine, and above all spending time with his family.

He was predeceased by his parents Harry and Sadie, and his sister Lilian (Bill McGhee). He is survived by his loving wife Marilyn, sons Garth (Loyola) and Jeff (Veronica), daughter Colleen (Mark), brothers-in-law Lorne, Jr. (Ev) and Gerry (Colleen), niece Maureen (Gordon), grandchildren Tyler, Hahlay, Tyus, Lleyton, and Sessaly, great nieces Sarah and Laura, as well as other family members and his dog Coco.

Loved by many, liked by all who met him, and blessed with a wonderful sense of humour, Denis was honest, decent, kind, and hard-working. He will be dearly missed.

Thank you to Dr. Kulla, Carolyn (RN), Sadie (ICU), as well as special friends Ed Bussian and Doug Brouwer (Diane).

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the B.C. Children’s Hospital and/or the SEVA Foundation for the visually impaired or Literacy Nanaimo.

A celebration of Denis’ life will be held at First Memorial Funeral Services on Bowen Road, Saturday, June 7, 2014, at 11 A.M. Reception to follow.
