In Loving Memory of Daniel Dettwiler

June 26, 1920 ~ August 14, 2013

With great sadness we announce the passing of Dan Dettwiler, at the age of ninety-three, family at his side in Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. He was predeceased by his parents and sister. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Leona, his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Born in Basel, Switzerland he immigrated to Canada with his mother, settling in Vancouver, B.C. He served with the Royal Engineers during WW ll. He worked as an electrical contractor throughout the province until 1973, then joined the B.C. government as an electrical inspector, serving the Nanaimo area until his retirement in 1985. He had a real love for the outdoors, pursuing his passion for hunting and fishing in the rivers or out cruising on the seas surrounding Vancouver Island. Also a great believer in serving others, gave freely of his time and energy as a member of the Nanaimo Fish and Game Club, Nanaimo Yacht Club, Canadian Power Squadron, and as a Mason and Shriner.

Upon his request, Dan will be laid to rest with a family only graveside service at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, Dan would like donations made directly to the Salvation Army or the Shriners Crippled Children’s Fund.
