COLIN RHODES

Born Nov. 3, 1921 in Duncan, B.C. and passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Sept. 26, 2005. Survived by: Susan, his wife of 58 years, son Gary (Merilyn), daughters Elaine Keen (Rick), Irene Lansdell (Grant) as well as five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Colin was predeceased by younger brother Alan and younger sister Betty.

Colin grew up in Burnaby spending much of his youth with his grandfather Edwin Bateman in the home that is now the Burnaby Village Museum. At the age of 17 Colin enlisted and then served in the 13 Canadian Field Regiment, 44th Canadian Field Battery which landed at Juno Beach on D Day where Colin was wounded but returned to serve in Holland and Germany until the war ended. In 1946 Colin and Susan were married and he began a 35 year career with the B.C. Telephone Co. on Vancouver Island. Colin enjoyed golfing, cruising, spending time with his grandchildren and sharing a laugh with friends. Colin had a cheerful, buoyant spirit and will be lovingly remembered. The family would like to thank Dr. S. Beerman, the Nanaimo Hospice Society and the staff of the Palliative Care Unit at N.R.G.H. Service to be held Sat., Oct. 8, 1:00 p.m., Sands Funeral Chapel, Nanaimo. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit, N.R.G.H.
