October 17, 1944 - September 10, 2018
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Christopher Leslie Connaghan who left us peacefully in the late evening of September 10, 2018. He is predeceased by his son, Dale. He is survived by his loving wife, Ute, daughter Angie (Ken), granddaughters Mahatta and Sieva, his mother Jessie and his siblings, Patrick, Mary-Ann and Ron.

Chris was born in Basingstoke, England and grew up in Duncan, BC. Chris, while studying to be an engineer at UBC met the love of his wife, Ute Zielaskowski and graduated in 1964 with a Bachelor of Engineering in Chemistry. His career took him to various places in BC, including Cranbrook to work for the Skookumchuck Pulp Mill, later moving to Port Coquitlam to work with H.A. Simons Engineering which also took him to Chile two times. Chris's desire was to return to Vancouver Island, which is where he indeed ended up working for Elk Falls Pulp and Paper Mill in Campbell River. In 1996 Chris earned the Governor Generals Award for his work on the Co-Gen Energy project at Elk Falls, which significantly reduced greenhouse gas effects in the pulp and paper industry. He finished his career retiring from Fransen Engineering in Nanaimo.

Chris enjoyed the outdoors and spent many years hunting with his pack board in the Kootenays. Once he moved to Campbell River, he became an avid salmon fisherman, and would spend his time fishing in front of the light house and at the hump. Later, he found a new favorite fishing hole at Poett Nook and always had a supply of smoked salmon in the freezer.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
