It is with great sadness for the family to announce the peaceful passing of Charles at NRGH, with his much loved wife Viv by his side, August 5, 2019.
He was born in Truro, Nova Scotia on Sept. 23, 1942. Predeceased by his parents Annie Victoria (DeBay) Salter and Charles Wilfred Salter and Baby sister Elizabeth at birth.
He leaves behind his love Viv, two daughters Sheila (Everett), Susie - both in Ontario, son Charlie in Nanaimo, six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Also four sisters Mary, Gertrude, Kathleen and Carla (Dave) all in BC, several nieces and nephews and two young men Greg and Mike - knowing him as Dad and Pops.
At a young age he was an Alter Boy at the Immaculate Conception Church in Truro. In 1961, he joined the Army, leaving with an Honorable Medical Discharge.
Moved to Nanaimo in 1965 where he went to work for Westview Roofing. Job took him to Powell River in 1984. In and around 1991 a virus took his hearing causing him to retire early. He spent a short time in Quesnel, BC. Then back to Nanaimo, where in 2002 reunited with Viv - residing in Cedar by the sea.
His hobbies are darts, hunting, fishing, mind puzzles, playing guitar, working with wood and lastly working on small engines and repairs for others. Charles, AKA Charlie, Chuck, Bubbie, Sonny, Chuck (ERS), Newfie, will be missed by the many lives he touched.
