May 2, 2008

Catherine Ann (Leahy) Sangster April 20, 1952 - May 2, 2008

Cathy passed away Friday, May 2, 2008, surrounded by her family after a courageous fi ght with pancreatic cancer. Cathy was born in Nanaimo and resided here except for the few years she spent living in Prince George and in the Yukon panning for gold. In 1989 Cathy graduated from Malaspina College as a registered nurse. She dedicated 16 years to this profession and the last three years she was a member of the Quick Response Team for Home and Community. Cathy also served in various positions of the BC Nurses Union and was a vocal advocate for nurses rights. She was held in highest regard by her fellow nurses and respected by all other colleges in the medical fi eld. Cathy loved working in her garden, trips to the nursery to buy new plants, and redesigning her yard. She treasured family time with her son Aaron and her grandson Max at the cabin on Horne Lake. As the sun set, you could fi nd Cathy either relaxing on the deck gazing into the sunset or reading a book, her favorite pastime, with a glass of her favorite wine. Cathy is predeceased by her father, Patrick George Leahy, and Reginald Sangster. She is survived by her son Aaron Sangster; her husband Kit Morgan; mother Elizabeth Leahy; siblings: Barbara Wilson (Stuart), Sharon Lane (Marcus), Patricia Leahy, Kenneth Leahy (Gloria), Elizabeth Leahy (John), David Leahy (Wanda), Mary Brynildsen (Paul), and Stephen Leahy; nieces: Courtney Lane, Nicole Lane, Brie-Ann Balance and Megan Brynildsen; nephews: Jay Bauder and Dave Finnsson; Granny to Max Bennett; her in laws Lorna and Roy Jarrett (New Zealand) and sister in law Julie Unsworth (New Zealand); step children Larissa and Heath Morgan (New Zealand).
