Capt. B. Maurice Durrant

August 11, 1946 – July 13, 2010

Maurice Durrant passed with his loving wife, Ramona, by his side. Maurice will be sorely missed by Ramona, his children, Scot Fraser (Angela), Paul Durrant and Karen Spence (Brian), his three beautiful granddaughters, Lauren Leah and Zoe. Maurice is also survived by his brother Neil Durrant (Rosemary), sisters Ruth Newton, Sharon Durrant and many nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Leland (Peachey) Durrant of Winnipeg. Maurice was born in Miniota, Manitboa, and moved to BC in 1990, eventually retiring on Vancouver Island. His love affair with aviation began in England where he received his glider’s license at the tender age of 11. Maurice flew commercially, piloting everything from the PBY-5A Canso to the Boeing 747-400. He was a respected aviator and instructor, admired for his professionalism, kindness and sense of humour. In his 40 years of avaiation he logged over 20,000 hours. Maurice was a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He was a true gentleman and will be forever missed. Our thanks go to Dr. Claude Benton, Dr. Marc Teixeira, and Dr. Ted Wilford. A “Celebration of Maurice’s Life” will be held in Winnipeg.
