Bud (Norman Douglas)

April 17, 1929 ~ March 16, 2011

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Bud Pointon.

Bud was born in Fernie, B.C., April 17, 1929 to Norman & Anne Pointon. He grew up in Fernie, working in the coal mines and enjoying sports and the outdoors.

Bud came to Nanaimo in the early 1950’s. He married and worked in the family business at the Globe Hotel. During these years he made many friends. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. For many years he was an active member of the Nanaimo Curling Club. In 1961 his curling team went to the Brier. He was very proud of that.

Bud retired from the Harmac Pulp mill and continued to live in Nanaimo for the remainder of his life. He will be remembered and loved by his daughter Nadine and son Scott. He always enjoyed the friendship and company of his granddaughter: Ashlee, Alanna, Paige and Daniella. Bud was always happy to see and enjoy his great granddaughter Jordyn; sisters: Edith, Shirley, Dorothy & Margret (Lit); brothers: Donald and David all have fond and loving memories of their brother Bud. He was predeceased by his sisters, Muriel, Ruth and his brother Jack.

Donations in Bud’s memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, The Canadian Diabetes Association or The Salvation Army would be greatly appreciated.
