September 27, 1959 – September 7, 2019
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Bruce on Sept 7, 2019.
Bruce left this world in peace surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his three sons Taylor, Trevor and Matthew, brothers Kevin and Grant, and sister Janice (Mark). He is reunited with his mother, father, and family dog Riley.
Bruce was born in Nanaimo to Gerry and Patricia Smith and grew up in the Woodlands area. He graduated from NDSS in the class of 1977 and lived and worked in Nanaimo his entire life, working as an equipment operator and running his successful trucking company Smithaul.
He was as social as they come and no stranger to a good time. Attending motorsport races, road trips with good friends, and taking his camper for a weekend getaway were all things he loved in life. But above all else, spending time with his boys was life’s greatest treasure. Taking them to Frank Crane or Civic arena for local sporting events, going for fish and chips on the harbour, and never missing a lacrosse practice were the moments he cherished most. He’ll be remembered as a loving father and friend to everyone, and for his smile that would light up the room.
A Celebration of Bruce’s life will be held on September 28, 2019 from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm at the Nanaimo Golf Club, AV Macan Banquet Hall, 2800 Highland Boulevard, Nanaimo, BC
A heartfelt thank you to the doctors and nurses at NRGH for their amazing compassion, respect and dignity. We are grateful beyond words.
