BONNIE MURPHY

(nee Higginson)

Nov 1939 - Sept 2007

"Just Away"

Bonnie passed peacefully on Saturday September 22, 2007, after losing her heroic battle with cancer. A native daughter of Nanaimo, predeceased by her father Fred and her mother Rene. Bonnie is survived by her loving husband Jim Murphy, her sister Carol Nielsen, her daughters Sherry Nielsen (Laffin), Vicki Tait (Laffin), Johanna Clynes (Brown), Corrine Murphy and her sons Brian (BJ) and James (Jamie) Murphy.

Her memory will be carried in the hearts of all her family and friends including her grandchildren Reid, Christopher, Kelsey, Jennifer, and Hayley, her nieces Lisa and Romana Schmidt, Aunts, Uncles and Cousins, her many B.C. Court buddies, card and golf gals, and her lifetime “sisters.” Bonnie touched many lives in so many endearing ways and she will be sadly missed.

Bonnie began her legal career working with various Nanaimo law firms before embarking on her 35 year career at the Nanaimo Court House. One of Bonnie’s proudest achievements was to be the first woman allowed in a B.C. Courtroom in a professional capacity. After retiring, she found great joy in spending more time with her grandchildren and her family. She strongly believed in the rights of single women and has asked that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Nanaimo’s Haven House Society 250-754-4243.

Her family wishes to especially thank Dr. Mel Peterman for his care and compassion, the Doctors and Staff at the NRGH palliative care ward and those special people who nurse at NRGH.

Her Celebration of Life will be held on October 12, 2007 - 3:00PM at the Nanaimo Golf Club. For family contact please email mlaw@telus.net.
