“Death leaves a heartache no one can heal...

Love leaves a memory no one can steal”

Thompson, Bessie May (nee Hockey/Richardson) born March 14, 1912 in Melfort Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2010 at Nanaimo Seniors Village in Nanaimo with family by her side. Pre-deceased by her husband George Thompson (Dec.09, 1987), her mother Nellie May Hockey (June 02, 1994) and her father Alfred Hockey (March 06, 1963).

She is survived by her sister, Delores Mehler and family of Estevan, Saskatchewan. Bessie is further survived by numerous cousins including fellow descendants of the Butcher & Nelson families of North Wellington in Nanaimo (locally: Butcher Road and Nelson Road are named after these families).

Family members wish to convey sincerest thanks to Dr. Poteryko and the first floor staff of NSV for all the care, comfort, dignity, and compassion provided to our Bessie throughout.

A funeral is declined at the request of the deceased. Final placement of her remains and a tea to follow is planned for early June wherein family from near and far will convene in her honor. Family members and friends are respectfully requested to contact Blake & Rhonda Erickson of Nanaimo (for contact arrangements to follow) 250-758-0315.

Bessie loved her Bingo, living at Petroglyph Mobile Home Park, and all the friends she met along the way. She was witness to unimaginable change living from 1912 to 2010 and remained sharp and alert always.

“Because I could not stop for death, He kindly stopped for me...

The carriage held but just ourselves and immortality” -Emily Dickinson
