February 10, 2019

February 10, 2019
On the morning of February 10, 2019, Mr. Bernard (Ben) ENNS of Nanaimo, B.C. lost his long courageous battle with cancer.

Ben was born in Duff Saskatchewan in 1928, and spent his childhood on the family farm. As a young man, Ben left home to work as a heavy equipment operator in various locations. In 1956, Ben met Sophie Rausch and they were married the following year. They have two sons, Calvin and Kevin. In 1962 the family moved to Nanaimo, B.C., where Ben built the family home and where they have resided ever since. Ben worked for Harmack until he retired 40 years later.

Ben loved to tinker in his workshop. He made several novel wooden toys including a digger for his grandson. Ben also loved to fish and went at any opportunity, despite the fact that he was regularly skunked. He spent many a day in his garden, tending to his plants.

Ben is survived by his wife, two sons, two grandchildren, and a number of family and friends. He will be remembered as an incredibly kind man who never hesitated to lend a helping hand and always had a smile on his face.

A Celebration of Life Reception for Bernard will be held on Friday, February 15th, 2019 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at Sands Funeral Chapel, One Newcastle Avenue, Nanaimo, BC.
