September 19, 2016

WanglerB

Bernard (Bud) James Wangler

Bud was born in Wilkie Saskatchewan in 1937 and later moved to Vancouver as a young boy and then to Port Alberni where he attended high school and met Charleen his to be wife and mother of four sons; Rocky, Rick, Don, and Dan.

After joining the Airforce in 1954, Bud was posted to Comox, BC, France, Red Deer, AB, Portage la Prairie, MB and finally back to Comox. Bud served in the Airforce for 25 years until he retired and built a couple of homes and eventually bought Sleep-Eze Waterbeds in Comox until he closed the store and opened Crazy Bud’s sporting goods in Nanaimo.

Bud really enjoyed carpentry and was always there to work on projects of his son’s and others.

Bud moved back to the Comox Valley in 2011 to be closer to family as his health was starting to fail. He suffered from strokes and eventually was diagnosed with lung cancer and dementia. He spent the last year and a bit of his life in Ocean View care facility in Comox where he passed away on Monday, September 19, 2016. The staff there were very fond of Bud and his sense of humour and stories he told.

Bud was predeceased by his father John of Calgary, his mother Yvonne of Port Alberni, sister Jeannie of Nanaimo and his eldest son Rocky.

He is survived by his sons Rick (Mona), Don (Marie) and Dan; grandchildren Christy, Christopher, Jesse and Cody; sisters Lyla Curly, Betty Headman (Malcolm), Doreen Cyr (Omer), and brother Gary (Lynn). He was especially fond of his great grandson River whom he had opportunity to spend a lot of time with in his later years. He also loved dearly his great grandchildren Layla and Bella and would have loved Kenny & Logan just as much had he had an opportunity to meet them. Memorial donations in Bud’s name may be made to Ocean View (2137 Comox Ave., Comox, BC V9M 1P2) or to the Canadian Cancer Society (565 West 10th Ave. Vancouver, BC V5Z 4J4).
