December 29, 1934 - February 16, 2021
Barb, 86, passed away peacefully and without pain at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital - Palliative Care - on February 16, 2021 in the presence of family.
Barb is now able to joyfully reunite with her husband and companion of 66 years, Bob. Barb sorely missed Bob these past 4 years and daily wore his personal wrist watch to keep him close.
Barb was born in Nanaimo, BC on December 29th, 1934, the third of four children to Louis and Florence McIntyre. She is predeceased by her parents and all her siblings; sisters, Ariadne and Louise and brother, "Bud".
At the very young age of 15, Barb met and subsequently married Bob on July 29th, 1950. They raised four daughters in Cassidy where Barb resided for more than 62 years.
Mom started as a very young mother but became a strong, independent woman who passionately supported, protected and defended her flock of girls as they grew, instilling the importance of education, hard work, and an appreciation of life.
Times were often tough but Mom adapted by becoming a superb, self- taught and creative seamstress, cook, baker, and master of all things canned, frozen and pickled. She was a beautiful artist as well, creating many wonderful sketches.
She was good with her hands and was particularly well known for her wonderfully executed and sought after wedding and baby shower centre pieces. Mom loved flower gardening and was fond of dahlias and gladiolus. She left the veggies and fruits to Bob but always took the lead in preserving these foods for future use. She was also an avid reader enjoying historical figures and historical romance.
Where the strong independent woman was truly able to show her very soft loving side was with her 14 grandchildren. Mom was delighted to follow and be a part of their lives.
Barb's family: daughters Jeanne, Janet, Valerie and Deborah; son in law Clive; seven grandchildren; Allan, Andrea, Christina, Stephen (Nicole), Sandra (Matt), Gregory (Jill), and Simon (Dawn) and seven great grandchildren; Rebecca, Mykel, Alexis, Micheline, Emma, Taren and Asher realize that: Life is a balance of holding on and knowing when to let go....
Thank you to the many care workers, particularly Henry, for allowing the family to keep mom at home for as long as possible.
