AVE MARIE MASSICK

April 25, 1929 ~ May 13, 2012

Ave died peacefully at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital with loving family in attendance. Ave was born in Orillia Ontario, the daughter of Alphonse and Rose Kelly. Mom was raised in Brechin and Toronto. She moved to the west coast in her late teens to begin her married life with her first husband, Howie (Lynn) Foley. Most of her life was spent on Vancouver Island where she raised five children.

She is predeceased by her parents; her husband, George; her brothers, Jerry (Isobel) Kelly and Arnold Kelly; and her daughter, Sue (George) Mitchell.

She will be missed by her sister, Marlene (Bob) Hallock; sister-in-law, Verna (Peter) Lucy; niece, Shari Hallock; nephew, David (Lisa) Kelly; children: Bob Foley, Anne (Alan) Mackiewicz, Cliff (Lorrie) Massick, Wayne (Rita) Massick; thirteen beloved grandchildren, their spouses, and many great grandchildren.

Ave traveled the world with her husband George, and made a large continually expanding circle of lifelong friends along the way. She spent her later years traveling with a full address book of people to visit. She had an incredible zest for life and lived it to the fullest, remaining very active to the end. She had a great sense of humor and was an avid reader. She loved reading the newspaper and watching news and current events on TV. She especially enjoyed shopping and driving herself on long road trips throughout Canada and the U.S. Time spent with family and friends remained her main focus throughout her life. Her holiday dinners, that brought family and friends together, will always be fondly remembered. Ave’s generous, kind, loving and forgiving spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Services will be held at Saint Peter’s Catholic Church in Nanaimo on Tuesday, May 22nd at 11a.m. In lieu of flowers, our family requests donations be made to the Heart and Lung Association or St. Peter’s Catholic Church.
