Announcement: It is with great love and sadness we announce the passing of Arthur Nelson Smith.

Loving Husband of 59 years, father, grandfather, uncle and great uncle, Arthur passed away peacefully with family by his side on August 29th, after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's disease.

The family wishes to thank the caregivers of Astoria Suites at Origin for their excellent and compassionate care and the many care aids who cared for and assisted him at home over the last 4 years. The family would like to thank Dr. Beerman for his years of care and compassion.

Pre-Deceased by Parents Richard & Ruth Smith, In laws Charles & Leona Snowden, Sister Barbara (Kirzinger), Brother Don, Brother-in-law Bill Snowden.

Survived by Wife Leona, Son Larry (Morgan) Grandsons Jacob and Charlie, Daughter Laurie (Brad), Sister-in-law Shireen, Niece Juli, Nephew Derek (Shana), Brother in law George Kirzinger (Marielle), Niece Chris (Colin), Niece Cathy (Edwin),

Niece Donna (Bob), Great Niece Taylor and his many other great nieces and nephews. Cousins Bob (Marnie), Sharon (Wayne), Debbie (Barry), Steve (Dina), Debbie (Bill), Al (Sharon) and their family members.

A Nanaimo native born in 1939, he and his father co-owned R&A Smith Plumbing & Heating from 1962 and he later owned Kressco Mechanical. Art was a 46-year Member of the Nanaimo Yacht Club, a 53-year member of the Masonic Doric Lodge, along with CLRA and the Nanaimo Flying Club.

Art loved video calling with his grandsons and the ocean view from his homes over the years....

In retirement Art & Leona enjoyed sunny winters in Palm Springs and summers boating along the West Coast with their friends and family.

A Celebration of Life for Art will be held Saturday October 6th from 1:00 - 4:00 pm at the Nanaimo Yacht Club, 400 Newcastle Avenue Nanaimo, BC. Memoriam at 2:00 pm.
