Born Adriannus Johannus Hendrina on November 12, 1937 in Mill, Holland to Gerard and Hendrika Royendyk. The youngest of 13, Art immigrated to Canada in 1957. He first settled in Port Alberni before deciding to make the Cassidy/ Nanaimo area his home. Art spent several years working in the logging industry before becoming an owner/operator of both an excavating and a trucking company. After retirement, Art was regularly in his garden or working in his basement on various wood and mechanical projects. When he wasn't in his garden or basement, he could often be found sitting on his front porch chatting and visiting with his neighbours. Art also enjoyed watching soccer, playing pool with his family, as well as a fierce game of crib. His quick wit and sarcastic sense of humour will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Art's Life will be held from 1-4 pm on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 3428 Juriet Road (off Yellowpoint Road). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Art's memory to a charity of your choice.
You are dearly missed today and will be for everyday to come. You will always be our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
