1926-2020 ~ Mam passed away at Woodgrove Manor on September 22, 2020, at the age of 94, with her loving family at her side. Born in Rakovac, Bosnia (then Jugoslavija) to a Ukrainian mother and Russian father, she was the third of twelve children.
In 1968, after a divorce in 1959 and with the encouragement from surrogate mother Tatjana Selicky, Angelina and her daughter, Tatjana, immigrated to Calgary looking for a new life.
It was there where she met the love of her life, Nick Makortoff, and spent a happy but short life with him in Vulcan, Alberta until his death in 1978. Mam stayed in her little house and enjoyed her new community while happily gardening, volunteering at a nursing home, fishing, and collecting golf balls.
After her 80th birthday, she moved to Nanaimo. Here she made new friends and was a regular at Bowen Park Seniors Tuesday crib games and loved to visit the Casino on a regular basis.
Mam is predeceased by almost all of her siblings and extended family members. Tatjana is joined in mourning the loss of her mother by her son Ronald, daughter-in-law Sasha, grandson Nathan, as well as nieces and nephews around the world. She will be remembered by many for her generosity, special cooking, her hospitality and endless offers of food: "you eat, eat, eat".
Angelina lived at Woodgrove Manor for the last six years. We are thankful to all the "cowboys and ballerinas" as mother called the staff for their extra commitment to Mam's care.
A graveside service will be held in Vulcan, AB at a later date. We will have a "remember when" gathering when COVID precautions allow. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of one's choice are greatly appreciated.
Forever loved by daughter Tatjana
