ALICE VANDERLAAN

June 11, 2011

Alice Vanderlaan

Alice was born in Bedum, Holland and passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends in Nanaimo on June 11, 2011. She is survived by her loving husband Bill of 53 years, and cherished by her two daughters, Joyce (Doug) and Frances (D’Arcy). She also is blessed with many grandchildren Nick, Rich, Alicia (Travis) and Candice and Caylem. Alice also leaves behind several brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.

Alice dedicated her working life to work alongside her husband farming while raising her two daughters. She also enjoyed volunteering at Hospice, doll making, travelling and sharing time with family and friends. Each of us will remember Alice in our own special way, but she will be remembered as a loving caring wife, mom, grandma, friend and mentor to all of us.

Alice was an active member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church and was very active with the Nanaimo Community Hospice Society.

The family would like to send a special thank you to the Dr. N Janssen, Dr. A Baird for their care and also to the extra special care given by the nurses on the Palliative Care Unit, along with friends from Hospice.

The service will be held Saturday June 18, 2011 at the St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Nanaimo at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Alice’s memory to the Nanaimo Community Hospice Society.
