It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mom/grandma on September 2, 2009 in the Cowichan District Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband James (Jim) in 1997. She was also predeceased by her parents Dick and Jane Fiddick and her brothers Richard, Johnny, Bill, Edwin, and Tommy.
Alice will be lovingly remembered by her children: Donna (Hap) Laffin and Douglas (Valorie) Galloway; grandchildren: Tara (Jeff), Darren, Tyler (Soula), Cory; step granddaughters: Vicki (John), Sherry (Peter); 5 step great grandchildren; brother Ronnie (June) Fiddick; sisters: Alma Davidson, Dorothy Scott, Shirley Lindsay; sister-in-law Hazel Shorter; her beloved cat Bailey as well as many nieces, nephews and other extended family.
Mom was an active volunteer and member for many organizations and groups in her community. She was an active member in the Native Daughters Post #7 until she passed away. She will be remembered for the flowers she lovingly grew and gave to anyone who needed or wanted them for any occasion. Mom’s chosen profession as an elementary school teacher began in 1942 at South Ward School, then Ladysmith Elementary, Davis Road, Diamond, North Oyster and finally Ladysmith Primary until she retired in 1981. Many of her students will remember her as the good-looking teacher with the spike heels.
A special thanks to the Home Support Staff, Ladysmith Ambulance Attendants, the nurses and doctors in the Cowichan District Hospital Emergency and ICU units, Dr. Britton-Foster, the Native Daughters, and her many friends for their love and support of Mom.
Funeral Service will be held Thursday, September 10, 2009 at l:00 P.M. at the First United Church, 232 High Street, Ladysmith, BC, followed by a tea at the Eagles Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mom may be made to the charity of your choice.
The memory of her loving and nurturing hands will forever be with us.
