Alfreda Webber (Winnie)

(nee Morris)

February 7, 1922 ~ March 17, 2013

Winnie was born in East Wellington and passed away peacefully at Nanaimo Kiwanis Lodge. She was raised in Nanaimo and married John E. (Ted) Webber. Ted and his father and other family members worked in the Nanaimo coal mines, as did Winnie’s father, Jim Morris. Later Ted and Winnie spent many years together fishing from Deep Bay to Nanaimo aboard their boat, the Alisen K. Winnie never cared to travel far from home, her longest journey being to the Yukon where Ted spent many of his earlier years. She enjoyed gardening, baking, and entertaining close friends in their Nanaimo home, often during the winter months.

Ted passed away in his 94th year in 2007. He was predeceased by their son, John Edward (Eddie) Webber. Winnie was also predeceased by her brother, Arnold. Winnie is survived by her sister, Mary Irvine (Frank) in Victoria; nephews: Ralph Irvine (Betty Rae), Glen Irvine (Janet), David Morris (Judy); nieces: Arlene Morris, and Shirley Lauscher (Reg); Greg Lauscher, Sandy Cooper (Jeff), Pam (Vansickle Warren); brother-in-law, Howard Webber (Olive); nephew, Wayne Somers (Connie); nieces, Carolyn Somers, and Wendie Webber (Bob); nephew, Paul Webber (Jody); nieces, Sandra Zado (Bruce), and Patricia Love (Bob); nephew, Philip Webber; niece, Helen Holway (Ron); extended family in the Yukon; and close friends, Merilyn Lukeanchuck, Gwen Russell, and John Morris (Barb).

Many thanks to the staff at Kiwanis Village Lodge for their kind care of Winnie during her final years.

Winnie’s wishes were that no services be held. In lieu of flowers, donations in Winnie’s memory to Nanaimo Community Hospice Society would be greatly appreciated.
