Alfreda Dorothy Leigh (Parkes)
Passed away Monday, October 24, 2016 aged 88 years. Freda was surrounded with love by her three Angels, her daughters Sharon, Terry and Laurel. She was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence, father and mother, Brian and Dora Parkes, sisters Eleanor (Norm) Baldwin and Dot (Bill) Symington, brother Jimmy and brother-in-law Norm Leece. Freda is survived by her sister Mary Leece, daughters Sharon (Keith) MacDonald, Terry (Ian Flint) Wilson, and Laurel Terry. Also survived by her grandchildren, Darren, Brett, Ryan (Lindsay), Leah, Kristy, Carly (Matt), Nicole and great grandchildren, Teresa, Hunter, Taylor, Connor and Clara, as well as extended family.
After moving with her family to Nanaimo from Ladysmith Freda grew up in the Northfield and Quarterway areas where she made many long time friendships and memories. Her life with Lawrence and their family on Kennedy Street added to those fond memories. Freda loved her last home on Seafield Crescent along with all her new friends.
Freda started her working career at B. C. Tel, then moved on to Lindsay’s Office Supplies, and retired as manager of Hill’s Native Art.
There will be no service by request. The family is very grateful for the nurses, doctors and hospice volunteers in Palliative Care. In memory of Freda donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.
