Alf James Ettinger Jr passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 8, 2020 in Nanaimo, BC.
Born July 21st 1935 Alf is survived by his wife Colleen, Daughters: Sue (Mark), Roberta, Barb(Doug), grandchildren: Liam, Stephanie, Justin, Jessica & Colby, Sisters : Alice & Grace... Predeceased by his parents Alfred James Sr & Barbara, sisters Margaret and Barbara...
Alf worked for the City of Nanaimo for 35 years as Tax Collector, something he was very proud of.
He joined the Nanaimo Fish & Game in the early 60's with the encouragement of his father in law Cot McKenzie... They were two of the many who were instrumental in building the foundation of the main club house that is still there today. Alf found his passion in shooting... First in the Pistol Division (along with his lifelong buddies Jerome Harrison and Bob Ibbotson) where he became an expert Sharpshooter...
Over the years he held the titles of President, Vice President & Director... In the 70-80's he became Trap Director and lastly he shared the responsibility of Skeet Director... Alf was awarded a lifetime membership for his service...
He was an accomplished shooter and achieved many shooting milestones, winning numerous prestigious trophies and awards in all three divisions.
His beloved dog Sable was by his side wherever he went, ball in her mouth, always looking for someone to throw it for her. The two of them enjoyed many bird hunting adventures accompanied with his buddies Al Brown and Slim Davis.
The family would like to thank the staff, especially Samantha & Tanya, at Chartwell Malaspina Care Residence, Kingfisher Unit, for the excellent care & compassion they provided...
Alf had a great sense of humor and will be sadly missed by those who knew him. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Heart & Stroke Foundation or The Nanaimo Fish & Game would be appreciated...
