Alan William Nohr

It is with the greatest sadness that we announce the passing of Alan William Nohr on May 30, 2014 in Nanaimo BC. Alan was born on May 1, 1947 in Vancouver and moved to Nanaimo in 1950. He will be forever remembered and cherished by Francesca, his wife of 43 years, son Danny (Sarah), daughter Shari (Flavio), grandchildren Jacob, Nicholas and Jessica. Predeceased by his father Alick in 2002 he is survived by his mother Doreen, brothers Gary, Ray, Terry, sister Gail and many nieces and nephews.

Alan retired in 2002 after 32 years with BC Tel. Gardening, golf and travel filled his retirement years.

Alan loved life and always found the positive side of every day. He looked for the good in people and held his family and friends close to his heart. His best times were spent with those he loved, especially his grandchildren. Gramps saw the “magic” in those little people and their bond was strong. Throughout his battle with cancer he didn’t complain -- always brave to the end. And when the end came, he was surrounded by and in the arms of his family and friends. Every day was better while he was with us and every day will be less without him. He is dearly missed and will remain forever in our hearts.

“Some People come into our lives and quickly go. Some people move our souls to dance. They awaken us to understanding with the passing whisper of their wisdom. Some people make the sky more beautiful to gaze upon. They stay in our lives for a while, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never, ever the same again.”

There will be a celebration of life at the Nanaimo Golf Club on Sunday, June 22rd , 11:00am to 1:30pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to BC Cancer Foundation or Heart and Stroke Foundation.
