Age 60, passed away at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital on February 18, 2011. He is survived by his wife, Lynne, his children Isaac (Cara), Aaron (Michelle) and Megan and his granddaughter, Avianna. Born November 6, 1950 in Ommen, The Netherlands. He grew up in Telkwa, BC, attended Smithers Secondary and graduated from the University of British Columbia in 1973. Abe was a member of UBC’s Thunderbird Junior and Senior Varsity football teams. He went on to work as a commercial fisherman for 38 years on the BC coast. He also worked as a land surveyor, school teacher, writer and was recently involved in the long haul trucking industry. His volunteerism included coaching amateur sport and countless hours of academic inquiry into salmon enhancement and other related fishery topics. He will be remembered for his honesty, sense of humor and passion for life. No formal service will be held by request. Thank you to the staff at Palliative Care at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital for all their support and assistance.
