Dave has gone fishing, joining his son Andy (1960-2014). His memory will always be in the hearts of wife Jo (63 years), beloved son and best friend Ian, adored grandchildren Michael (Texas), Meghan (Calif), daughter-in-law Melanie (Andy) Texas, extended stepfamily in NZ, and Ritchie and Lane cousins.
E. David was born in West Vancouver, attended UBC, BSc (1959); MSc (Institute of Fisheries (1962) PhD (U Texas, 1966).
He was a respected scientist, researcher, consultant, and dedicated teacher who touched and helped shape many lives.
His career took him, Jo, and family to NZ .Texas (UT), Ontario, California State U at Long Beach, As a consultancy he had many trips to the Cayman Islands and Thailand, and China (1982).
In 1979, a long wished for return to BC beckoned to Malaspina College (VIU) to establish and develop a Fisheries and Aquaculture Dept. His vision, leadership and research on white sturgeon led to an informal title as "Sturgeon General" and subsequently the creation of the International Centre for Sturgeon Studies ICSS) at VIU. He retired in 1999 as a Professor Emeritus.
Dave enjoyed his retirement camping and fishing with Andy, Ian, family, and friends as well as cruising the BC coast inland waters, exploring BC, and trips to Texas, Florida, California, NZ, Arizona, Ireland, Hawaii.
He was a loving, creative, witty and kindhearted person who will be forever missed.
