Get ready, Nanaimo!
While you drop, cover and hold on, we will be testing our emergency alert system, Voyent Alert!
OCTOBER 17, 2024 AT 10:17 AM
On Thursday, October 17, 2024 at 10:17 am, the Great BC ShakeOut earthquake drill will take place. During the drill, the City of Nanaimo will also test Voyent Alert!, our emergency alert system. Residents of the City of Nanaimo who have registered for Voyent Alert!, will receive a test alert beginning at 10:17 am. During the test, registered users will receive a call, text or email with the following message:
“This is a TEST of the City of Nanaimo’s emergency alert system. This is ONLY a TEST. If this had been an actual emergency or threat, you would now see or hear instructions that would assist you to protect you and your family. This is ONLY a TEST, NO ACTION IS REQUIRED.”
In the event of a large-scale emergency, such as an earthquake, the City’s alert system will provide important and timely safety information to residents. This and future tests will determine the system’s readiness for an actual emergency.
