Public Notice: Notice of Intention to Amend “Council Procedure Bylaw 2018 No. 7272”

In accordance with Section 124(3) of the Community Charter, notice is hereby given that the Council of the City of Nanaimo intends to amend the “Council Procedure Bylaw 2018 No. 7272”. In general terms, the proposed amendments include the following:

  1. Amend the bylaw for clarity, grammar, and other housekeeping matters.
  2. Remove Question Period from committee agendas where the Committee does not consist of all members of Council.
  3. Add provisions associated with electronic devices, signage, and inappropriate behaviour.
  4. Add provisions to prohibit delegations related to election issues, election campaigning, or matters that are contrary to City policy or legislative requirement.
  5. Add a provision to authorize Council to reduce the time limit for delegations from five (5) minutes to three (3) minutes when there are multiple speakers on the same topic.
