There will be a Public Hearing on Thursday, June 19th, 2025, starting at 7:00 p.m. in the Shaw Auditorium at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre at 80 Commercial Street, Nanaimo, BC, to consider a proposed amendment to the “City of Nanaimo Zoning Bylaw 2011, No. 4500” and a proposed amendment to the “Off-Street Parking Regulations Bylaw 2018 No. 7266”.
All persons who believe their interest in property is affected by a proposed amendment bylaw will be given the opportunity to be heard. Members of the public can participate in-person or call in to speak to an agenda item during the live-streamed meeting. Speaker times will be limited to 5 minutes.

BYLAW NO. 4500.235
The purpose of Bylaw No. 4500.235 is to amend “City of Nanaimo Zoning Bylaw 2011, No. 4500” to update the requirements and definitions related to landscape buffers, public plazas, waste management enclosures, and fencing; and, to update the guidelines in Development Permit Area 8 (DPA8) Form and Character with the Form and Character Design Guidelines (2025) for new commercial, industrial, multi-family and mixed use development.
BYLAW NO. 7266.04
Location: Downtown Urban Centre as shown on Map A
The purpose of Bylaw No. 7266.04 is to amend City of Nanaimo “Off-Street Parking Regulations Bylaw 2018 No. 7266” to remove minimum parking space requirements for all uses in the Downtown Urban Centre. There will continue to be regulations for accessible parking, bicycle parking, and electric vehicle charging equipment.

Following the close of a Public Hearing, no further submissions from the public can be accepted by members of Council. This is necessary to ensure a fair Public Hearing process and provide a reasonable opportunity for people to respond at the Public Hearing.
