Serious Coffee in Parksville was broken into Saturday night but owner Dawn Deschamps said fortunately nothing was stolen.

“Our alarm went off at around 7:05 p.m.(Saturday),” Deschamps said. “We had nothing stolen, I think because when the alarm went off it freaked them out.”

Deschamps said someone, or several people, broke through a cinder block wall which put them in Island Cleaning Supplies’ warehouse, next to Serious Coffee, located at 1209 East Island Highway.

Next, they removed shelves and drywall in the warehouse and tried to burrow through the wall to gain entry to the coffee shop.

“That didn’t work and then they smashed our glass door… they came in but didn’t take anything,” Deschamps said.

On the same night, Pacific Brimm Cafe, 123 Craig St., in Parksville was also broken into.

Owner Teresa Patterson said the shop’s courtyard side door was smashed and their petty cash boxes were stolen.

Patterson said video surveillance showed the thief was a “larger man” who acted alone.

The Oceanside RCMP have yet to respond to a NEWS request for information on the incidents.
