Work started on Linley Valley West access project

Trees being cleared to make way for Linley Valley neighbourhood access improvement project.

Work to improve access to Linley Valley West neighbourhood is getting underway.

The city announced Tuesday tree clearing to make way for a single-lane roundabout will be completed by March 15, before the start of bird nesting season.

The new single-lane roundabout will be built to connect Linley Valley Drive with the Rutherford and Nelson roads intersection with space to expand to a multi-lane arrangement if required to meet future traffic volumes.

Time for construction is estimated at eight months, starting with tree clearing and the remainder of construction happening between April and the end of 2017.

Intersection work will be completed in the summer months to avoid school-year traffic volumes and will require reduced speed limits, detours and other traffic controls to ensure safety for workers and road users.

Motorists will notice traffic changes along the corridor for tree clearing in March and again in late April as construction gets underway. More information will be made public as it becomes available.

The intersection and connector road was the preferred option from public feedback gathered in late 2015.

In June 2016 city council directed staff to design and budget for a phased multi-lane roundabout at the intersection along with new street lighting, crosswalks, bicycle lanes and landscaping.
