Wooden carving vandalized

NANAIMO – Wing snapped off and stolen from cedar carving. Police hope public can find missing piece.

Nanaimo RCMP are asking for the public’s help to find a wing that was broken off a carving and stolen.

The theft happened June 7 between 3 and 9 p.m.

The carving, located at 291 Fitzwilliam St., called Dancing with the Eagles, was created by Nanaimo carver Dan Richey and has been on display there for several years. Its owner hopes the wing will be returned since the piece can be repaired.

The statute, which is of an aboriginal male in a traditional costume and weighs more than 450 kilograms, is carved from cedar and measures 2 metres by 1.5 metres.
