David Strang sets off for the eighth Nanaimo Gyro Georgia Strait Charity Challenge on Thursday. The windsurfing fundraiser, from Nanaimo to Sechelt, benefits Nanaimo Salvation Army and the City of Nanaimo Parks, Recreation and Environment department. Strang said $23,000 was raised this year, bringing the total raised throughout the event’s history to about $200,000.
