A warrant has been issued for Kerry Chang as a result of violating terms of his release, according to Crown counsel.

Chang faced charges stemming from November 2016 incidents and was released on a recognizance with conditions, Daniel McLaughlin, Crown counsel spokesman, said in an e-mail. Chang violated daily curfew on Sept. 4 and a warrant was issued Sept. 19, he said.

RCMP are responsible for executing warrants and as of Wednesday afternoon, Chang was still at large, said Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman.

O’Brien said he doesn’t think Chang poses a threat to the public.

Chang is father of Makayla Chang, who was found dead on May 18.

“We know the fact that he’s also suffered a tragic loss this year, we know that and we are cognizant of that, however, there are certain rules that everybody has to follow and he’s not following those rules, hence a warrant has been issued,” said O’Brien.

O’Brien said Chang will most likely turn himself in.
