The Nanaimo RCMP has turned to the public to help find a man wanted for possession of stolen property, driving while prohibited and failing to make his court appearance.

According to an RCMP press release, the allegations against Robert Silva, 41, stem from an incident in March when he allegedly stole a vehicle in downtown Nanaimo. Silva and the vehicle were spotted hours later in the Nanaimo Lakes Road area.

Officers ordered Silva to exit the vehicle. When he allegedly refused, police service dog Knight was deployed to assist in the arrest, and Silva was taken to hospital soon after to be treated “for some superficial abrasions,” the release noted, before he was taken to Nanaimo RCMP detachment.

Silva was released from custody with an order to appear in provincial court in Nanaimo on June 23. Warrants were issued for his arrest after he failed to make his court appearance.

Silva is 5-foot-9, 180 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He has tattoos of a demon and a dragon on his forearms.

Anyone with information regarding Silva’s whereabouts is asked to call the Nanaimo RCMP detachment at 250-754-2345 and quote file No. 2021-10338.
