Van catches fire at gas station in Nanaimo

Incident occurred on Northfield Road

Nanaimo Fire Rescue extinguished a fire involving a Volkswagen van at an Esso gas station on Northfield Road this morning.

The van, driven by a couple on their way to Mount Washington to do some snowboarding, was about to be refuelled when fire broke out in the engine compartment shortly after 10 a.m.

Firefighters at the scene said the fire was mostly knocked down with fire extinguishers by the time crews arrived.

No one was injured and the fire was contained to the engine compartment of the vehicle.
