VIU students graduate next week

NANAIMO – More than 600 master's and bachelor's degrees, diplomas and certificates will be awarded to VIU students next week.

More than 600 master’s and bachelor’s degrees, diplomas and certificates will be awarded to Vancouver Island University students during convocation ceremonies early next week.

On Monday and Tuesday (June 3-4), graduates receive credentials in several different disciplines and trades programs.

“This is one of our largest spring convocations,” said VIU president Ralph Nilson, in a press release.

“The growing number of VUI graduates from across Canada and around the world speaks volumes about the high-quality teaching and learning environment at our university.”

B.C. Lt.-Gov. Judith Guichon will give an address to graduates at the June 3 ceremony.

During the ceremonies, VIU will award honorary doctor of law degrees to three prominent lawyers – Thomas Berger (June 3), Ronald MacIssac (June 4) and Mary Ellen Turpel-Lafond (June 4) – a distinguished alumni award to Snuneymuxw First Nations Chief Douglas White III (June 3) and an outstanding service award to retired VIU English professor Kevin Roberts (June 4).
