Ralph Nilson will continue in Vancouver Island University’s top job.

The university’s board of governors voted unanimously to reappoint Nilson for a second five-year term as president and vice-chancellor.

“The board appreciates the exceptional job Dr. Nilson has done for VIU,” said Mike Brown, board chairman.  “Dr. Nilson is a man of character whose personal values reflect the values of the University.”

The board appointed an end-of-contract review committee to assess Nilson’s performance and make a recommendation with respect to his reappointment. That committee was also unanimous in recommending reappointment.

“I am very pleased to accept this offer of a five-year renewal,” said Nilson in a press release. “We still have much work to do at VIU. I look forward to working with our chancellor, the board, employees, the communities on Vancouver Island, the B.C. coast and our partners around the world, as we continue to provide quality post-secondary education with an aim to advance the social and economic prosperity of the region. ”

Nilson was appointed VIU president in January 2007. His new agreement is a rollover contract with no salary increase.
