VIEX welcomes fair-goers in Nanaimo

Vancouver Island Exhibition organizers offer welcome, preview what’s to come

The Vancouver Island Exhibition returns to Beban Park in Nanaimo on Aug. 26, 27 and 28 for the annual agricultural exhibition.

With all of your favourite attractions like the West Coast Amusements midway, livestock shows, McDonald’s Family Fun Zone, and the return of the Raptors, Global FMX, Superdogs and 365 Pro Wrestling.

Home arts is back in person. Home arts has been the heart of the fair over the course of its history. Jams, jellies, sewing, crocheting, knitting, carving and homemade bath soaps are just a few of the displays to expect in home arts. Come see those competing for the best beer and wine, needle crafts and others every year. New this year is the homegrown cannabis section. You won’t be able to stop talking about all the great homemade talent Nanaimo has. Also in the home arts building is our silent auction with many great items to bid on from tattoos to autographed Canucks swag. Be sure to stop in the Centennial Building on fair weekend to bid on some great items.

The VIEX main stage will feature artists all from right here in B.C., mostly from the Island. For the first time ever, we will have stand-up comedy on the main stage as local comedy king Peter Hudson will be joining us for two sets on Friday afternoon. The entertainment starts in the morning with a Zumba class on each day followed by many artists and performers throughout the day. On Friday night we have Jesse Roper hitting the stage at 9:30 p.m. and Saturday will feature BCCMA Entertainer of the Year JoJo Mason at 9:30 p.m. On Sunday we have two great bands that will take you on a musical ride through time. The Timebenders will play at 12:30 p.m. and at 4 p.m. The Doctors of Rock N Roll will play to finish off the weekend of incredible talent.

Terrance B. the comedic hypnotist is back. After a hiatus from the VIEX we are thrilled to have Terrance B. return to the main stage with multiple shows each day.

The McDonald’s Family Fun Zone will feature two stage shows a day from Craig the Magician. He will be around all weekend doing some magic tricks and providing great entertainment for the whole family. We will also have many other activities going on in the family fun zone like arts and crafts, plenty of fun and games, bouncy castles, mini golf and giant zorbs.

Hungry? We got you covered. With a large assortment of vendors and food trucks there is something for everyone to enjoy.

The VIEX will be jam-packed with tons of things to do. You do not want to miss this year.
