One or more vandals smashed a dozen windows at a Nanaimo elementary school earlier this month.
According to a Nanaimo RCMP press release, at least 12 windows were broken over the weekend of Jan. 8-9 at the school as the corner of Millstone Avenue and Townsite Road.
Security patrolling the area noted the damage at both the front and back of the school at about 1 a.m. on Jan. 9.
“One window appeared to have had a rock thrown through it while the others were broken by a either a pellet or BB gun,” the release noted.
RCMP say the repair costs are estimated at several thousand dollars.
According to Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools’ most recent vandalism report, vandalism cost the school district approximately $45,000 for the seven-month period from the start of February until the end of August in 2021.
There are no suspects in the Brechin school incident and police have not heard from any witnesses. Anyone with information is asked to call the Nanaimo RCMP’s non-emergency line at 250-754-2345 and quote file No. 2021-798.
