Vancouver Island University will host a conversation on ‘The Future of Reconciliation in Canada’ this week.

The online webinar will be held Wednesday, April 20, from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., and will feature presentations by panelists, followed by a question-and-answer period.

According to a release issued by the university, reconciliation is a complex concept with a variety of definitions that can mean different things to different people.

“One thing many agree upon is that for reconciliation to become a reality, significant structural and societal changes are needed,” read the release.

The release continued that, as part of the university’s commitment to honour Indigenous students, employees and communities, as well as to further the understanding of Indigenous knowledge, the online webinar will bring together partners in philanthropic, private, public and academic sectors. Wednesday’s webinar will have nine panelists, including Deborah Saucier, VIU president; Michael Calvert, interim chair of VIU’s Indigenous commitments committee; Wanda Brascoupe Kennedy and Victoria Grant, founders of the Indigenous Peoples Resilience Fund; and Daniel Quan-Watson, deputy minister of Crown–Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada.

Registration for the online webinar can be done through www.viu.ca/reconciliation.
