Foul play is no longer suspected behind the death of a woman whose body was found in Lantzville early Tuesday.

Nanaimo RCMP and B.C. Coroner's Service conducted their investigation of the scene on Peterson Road, a quiet residential street, where the woman's body was discovered lying beside the road between Lantzville Road and Lynn Drive at about 7:18 a.m. by two joggers.

B.C. Ambulance paramedics attended and determined the woman, a 60-year-old Lantzville resident, was deceased.

Sgt. Sheryl Armstrong, Nanaimo RCMP spokeswoman, said because the area where the woman was discovered lies outside Nanaimo city limits and outside the jurisdiction of Nanaimo RCMP's municipal force, provincial RCMP investigators were brought in from Victoria.

Investigators from Nanaimo and Victoria were on scene until just after 11 a.m. when the body was recovered. They determined foul play was not suspected in the woman's death.

"Investigators have been on the scene and at this time it's believed it's going to be turned over to the coroner's office as foul play is no longer suspected," Armstrong said.

The B.C. Coroner's Service is continuing its investigation into the death.
