UPDATE: Tanker truck driver investigated for alleged assault

 

A 33-year-old Nanaimo man arrested for suspicion of impaired driving, after the truck he was driving flipped on the Island Highway near Goldstream Provincial Park Saturday, is also being investigated for allegedly assaulting a police officer at the time of his arrest.

The West Shore RCMP Officer involved in the arrest was not seriously injured.

The driver was released from West Shore RCMP custody Sunday evening on a promise to appear in the Western Communities provincial court June 16, for the alleged assault.

RCMP South Island Traffic Services continue to investigate the crash which spilled a large quantity of fuel into the Goldstream River.
